Health Promotion Mission Statement

The Health Promotions Committee (HPC), in conjunction with Wellness at Brown, supports faculty and staff throughout the University to improve and/or maintain overall well-being.  The committee oversees implementation of programming, resources and campaigns that encourage positive behavioral change and promote healthy environments. The objectives of this mission are to empower employees to reduce their health risks and to provide them with the tools needed to lead their best lives at home and in their careers.

Wellness Plan

Brown’s wellness program is a collaborative effort with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, third-party wellness vendors, campus partners and Brown faculty. To ensure programs remain effective and responsive to employee needs, the HPC meets quarterly to:

  • Evaluate outcomes: review participation levels and employee feedback
  • Assess needs: analyze aggregated health risk assessment data
  • Refine programming: identify opportunities to strengthen and expand wellness initiatives

Program Proposal

Each year, the committee develops a wellness plan informed by program results and employee feedback. This plan provides a framework for the University’s wellness efforts, although the committee reserves the right to amend the plan throughout the year if indicated. Current programming focuses on key areas such as:

  • Physical Health: nutrition, exercise, muscular skeletal health and ergonomics
  • Personal Well-Being: stress management, self-care and organization
  • Preventive Care: flu vaccination clinics and health screenings
  • Financial Wellness: programs designed to enhance financial literacy and support holistic well-being

Supporting a Healthy Brown Community

By encouraging employees to take an active role in their well-being, Brown aims to support a healthier and more engaged workforce. These efforts help promote individual health while contributing to the long-term sustainability of health care costs for the University community.
