Paid Time Off
Time Off Options
Employees receive paid sick time that can be used for their own health needs or to care for certain family members.
Vacation time provides employees with paid time away from work. Time off is accrued over time and should be scheduled in advance, based on the needs of both the employee and the department.
Brown provides a set of paid holidays each year to give employees time to rest and recharge. The official holiday schedule includes observed dates and, in some cases, additional time off.
Each year, Brown recognizes a summer hours period for eligible University staff. During this time, participating departments may operate on an adjusted schedule designed to provide greater flexibility during the summer months.
Brown designates a Winter Break period each year, with specific dates announced by University Human Resources. With the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, Winter Break days are not official University holidays and do not count against an employee’s vacation balance. These additional days are provided as paid time off for eligible staff.
Brown provides paid time away from work to support employees when they are serving their community, experiencing the loss of a loved one or fulfilling military obligations, while maintaining pay and benefits where applicable.
