Eligible employees of Brown University have a choice between two health insurance carriers and three plans. Both Blue Cross/Blue Shield and UnitedHealth offer a Comprehensive Plan (PPO); UnitedHealthcare also offers a High Deductible Plan (CDHP) with a health savings account (HSA).
Brown University offers dental insurance to eligible employees through Delta Dental of Rhode Island. After a three month waiting period, employees may choose between two plan options.
Vision coverage is offered through VSP's Choice Plan. VSP offers a network of providers and discounts at high-quality retail chains. The plan includes well vision exams, contact lens fitting exams, and savings on lenses, frames and contact lenses.
Optum Rx is Brown University's pharmacy benefit provider. Employees are automatically enrolled in prescription coverage once they enroll in one of Brown's health plans.
A Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows eligible employees, who are not currently contributing to an HSA account, to set aside pre-tax dollars through a payroll deduction to be used for eligible out-of-pocket health and/or dental expenses.
Brown University pays the full cost of basic life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance for eligible employees, who are automatically enrolled through Lincoln Financial Group.
