Health and Wellness

Your health and well-being are essential to thriving at work and beyond. Brown offers a comprehensive range of benefits designed to support your physical, mental and financial wellness, whether you’re choosing a medical plan, planning for the unexpected or looking for everyday support resources.

Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage

Explore your options for comprehensive health coverage, including medical, dental, vision and prescription drug plans to support your ongoing care.

Brown offers comprehensive health benefits to our faculty and staff, supporting you and your family through every stage of life. With a variety of options, you can find the coverage that meets your needs at each stage.
Prescription drug coverage is provided through OptumRx and employees are automatically enrolled in this benefit when they enroll in a Brown medical plan.
Two dental insurance options are available through Delta Dental of Rhode Island, both using the PPO Plus Premier network with access to a large national network of providers.
Vision coverage through VSP includes routine eye exams, glasses and contact lenses. The VSP Choice Plan offers access to a broad network of independent providers and retail locations.
Brown University medical plans include a range of reproductive health benefits to support you and your family, including maternity and pregnancy care and infertility services. Emotional well-being support is also available through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), so you have care and guidance every step of the way.
Benefit premiums are based on your employment group or collective bargaining agreement. Monthly rates for medical, dental and vision coverage are available for 2026.

Financial Protection

Protect yourself and your loved ones with coverage that provides financial security in the event of illness, injury or unexpected life events.

Employer-paid long term disability (LTD) coverage provides income protection if you are unable to work due to a qualifying illness or injury.
The Business Travel Accident (BTA) Plan covers employees traveling on authorized business and provides AD&D benefits at no cost.
Brown University offers voluntary Critical Illness and Accident Insurance to provide financial protection when you need it most. These plans provide cash benefits paid directly to you if you are diagnosed with a serious illness or experience a covered injury. These payments can be used for any purpose, including medical deductibles, recovery costs or everyday living expenses like your mortgage or childcare.

Spending and Savings Accounts

Take advantage of tax-advantaged accounts that help you save and pay for eligible healthcare and dependent care expenses.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses. By reducing your taxable income, FSAs can help you save on healthcare and dependent care costs throughout the year.

Wellness and Support Programs

Access resources that support your overall well-being, from mental health services to everyday wellness and convenient care options.

Brown University offers confidential counseling, coaching and work-life support through Spring Health. These services are available to all eligible employees and their families to support mental health, well-being and everyday life needs.
Telemedicine gives you convenient, 24/7 access to medical care and no appointment is needed. Whether you’re at home, at work or on the go, you can connect with a doctor anytime, day or night. Employees and dependents enrolled in a Brown University medical plan have access to telemedicine services, making it easier than ever to get the care you need.
Wellness at Brown is the University’s employee well-being program, offering a variety of in-person and virtual programs, tools and incentives designed to support healthy lifestyles. All Brown University faculty and staff are encouraged to take advantage of these resources to support their overall well-being.
