Additional Resources

Welcome to Brown University! As a new employee, you are joining a community committed to innovation, diversity and inclusion. We are here to support you throughout your onboarding journey with the resources and information you need to get started successfully. Please review the onboarding timeline to help you stay on track and ensure a smooth transition into your new role.
Learn about the process for obtaining a Social Security Number, including eligibility, application steps and required documentation. This information is especially important for individuals authorized to work in the U.S. After applying, please submit your receipt notice to the HR Service Center as temporary proof of application. Once received, your SSN must be provided within 90 days of your employment start date.
Before any payment (other than eligible travel reimbursements with receipts) can be issued, foreign national employees must register with the Foreign National Tax Office by accessing Sprintax Calculus. This ensures proper tax analysis and compliance prior to payment processing.
