Critical incidents are stressful or traumatic events that can significantly affect individuals, their families and the workplace. These situations may disrupt normal operations and impact emotional well-being.

Examples of critical incidents include:

  • The death of an employee
  • Natural disasters
  • Workplace accidents or injuries
  • Organizational changes such as downsizing
  • Any event resulting in physical or psychological harm

Support through Spring Health

Through Spring Health, Brown University's Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) services are available to provide timely, comprehensive support to those impacted.

Available services may include:

  • Onsite or virtual crisis response
  • Individual counseling sessions
  • Group support sessions for teams or departments
  • 24/7 telephonic crisis support
  • Post-incident follow-up and ongoing care

Spring Health providers work with employees to support recovery, build resilience and ensure access to continued care.

How to Request Critical Incident Support

Managers can request support directly through the Spring Health platform:

  1. Log into Spring Health
  2. Select “Workplace” from the left-hand menu
  3. Click “Request Critical Incident Support” under the “How Can We Help?” section
