On-Site and Remote Support for Employees

Dear Colleagues,

As we continue to navigate the impact of the recent tragedy on our campus, the well-being and mental health of all Brown community members are top priorities. We write today with information on additional support and resources for employees, as Campus Life and many other units on campus continue to provide support to students.

We are expanding our Employee Assistance Program (EAP)  services, through our provider Spring Health, to ensure continued mental health support in the weeks ahead because we recognize that the impact of grief and trauma can be deep and long-lasting. To ensure consistent support and professional care, all employees immediately have access to an additional 12 mental health counseling sessions through the end of 2025.  We are also working with Spring Health to provide you with additional EAP crisis counseling sessions for the calendar year 2026. More details will be forthcoming early in the new year.

Throughout winter break, employees have access to the following EAP resources:

Immediate Mental Health and Crisis Support by Telephone (for individuals)
Call: 1-855-629-0554
Select Option 2 for “Employees in Distress.”

Critical Incident Response Support (for teams/units/departments)
Critical Incident Response Support provides dedicated counselors on-site and/or virtually to provide support to teams after traumatic events. These are group psychological support sessions. Managers have access to this resource if they would like to schedule sessions to support their teams through the Workplace Resources section within the Spring Health platform.
  1. Log into Spring Health
  2. Select “Workplace” from the menu bar at the left.
  3. Select “Request Critical Incident Support” in the “How Can We Help?” section.
If you’d prefer to request Critical Incident Support by phone, please call 1.855.629.0554, option 4.

When employees return to work on Tuesday, Jan. 6, we understand that many will be contending with a deeply emotional experience. For that reason, we will have confidential on-site counseling available for faculty, staff and postdocs. No appointments are necessary. Please feel free to drop in to any of the following locations at any point between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm daily on  Tuesday, Jan. 6, through Friday, Jan. 9:

  • Sharpe Refectory: Chancellors Dining Room
  • South Street Landing: 4th Floor Service Center
  • Athletics/Facilities Management: 295 Lloyd Street Room 325
  • Stephen Robert ‘62 Campus Center: Petteruti Lounge

Confidentiality and Care

Please be assured that all counseling services are completely confidential. Your privacy is a priority; no personal information or usage data is shared with University leadership or Human Resources.

We encourage you to prioritize your health and mental well-being. We are here to support you, and we look forward to moving forward together with care and compassion.

If you have any questions, please reach out to University Human Resources for assistance at Worklife@brown.edu.

“Resilience, After” Sessions for Staff

Our colleagues in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) noted that many of you joined Monday's "Resiliency, After" educational session for staff. Unfortunately, the event reached capacity on Zoom, and organizers were unable to admit additional participants. The strong response highlighted the importance of and interest in more sessions, and  ODI plans to offer additional sessions after the new year for others who wish to join. Watch for additional announcements in the new year.

With care,
