Compensation

A comprehensive Compensation Guide provides an overview of all non-union staff compensation programs and resources.
For concerns about equity within your department, consult with Compensation Services to determine if equity issues exist.
All positions at Brown University, including student employees, are governed by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Rhode Island labor laws. You have responsibilities related to tracking and authorizing the hours of non-exempt employees.
You have a role in the process used to determine whether promotion of a staff member is an appropriate course of action.

Employee Time Away from Work

Accrued vacation time is scheduled at the mutual convenience of the supervisor and employee. View vacation scheduling standards.
The floating holiday may be used on a day mutually agreeable to the staff member and supervisor.
You may need to manage employee time away from work in parallel with maintaining departmental operations. Read guidelines and options for employee time off during Winter Break.

UHR offers programs designed to support you in your managerial or supervisory role. Consider Management Essentials for a strong foundation in crucial information and skills for effective leadership. Brown’s Leadership Certification provides new and existing leaders with the skills necessary for leadership.
